The Crossing is pleased to announce a call for submissions for The Crossing’s Icebox Composition Competition 2014, funded by the Knight Foundation Arts Challenge Grant, a local competition for composers of all ages and nationalities living within a 50 mile radius of Philadelphia (including Princeton, NJ; Newark & Wilmington, DE; and Allentown/Reading PA). Three composers will be awarded commissions of $3,000 to write a 20-minute choral work that makes creative use of the Crane Arts Center’s Icebox in Northern Liberties, Philadelphia – a large, industrial cathedral space with a reverberant acoustic.
Each entry will consist of one (1) Completed Entry Form, one (1) representative example of previous vocal work (score required; recording optional but preferred ) and one (1) project proposal, 400 words or fewer, detailing the proposed text to be set, scope of work, use of forces, and use of the space. The proposal may include one non-keyboard instrument. Electronic components may be considered. Creative use of the unique Crane Icebox space is highly encouraged. There is no entry fee. If selected, composers may be asked to modify their proposal in collaboration with The Crossing.
