It's going to be a busy weekend at The Crossing! Saturday we premiere Gavin Bryars' new work written for us and PRISM saxophone quartet. The work is a beautifully elegiac series of reflections on eternity, based on texts of 17th-century metaphysical author Thomas Traherne. Written specifically for the Icebox, the sounds surround, swirl, and linger in a perfect marriage of voices and saxophones enhanced by the marvelous acoustic. And Gavin will be here to celebrate with all of us afterward.
Composer Stratis Minakakis with The Crossing
The next morning, we head into the recording studio to make sure this historic occasion -- a first collaboration of PRISM and The Crossing, a first work for us from Gavin -- is not lost to memory, but rather is set down for the future; we'll be at Gould Hall at Lenfest Hall at The Curtis Institute all day Sunday, recording this wonderful work. Sometime soon it will be available through our label innova records.
