grief survival, crickets as metaphor, unsettlement;
pondering our separateness –
in cloaks of mesmerizing, inventive music

The Crossing kicks off the 2023-2024 Season: Sin Eating with a university tour of the season-opening concert Crickets in our Backyard, featuring the world premiere of a new work from Tania León, based on poetry of U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove, written for The Crossing and renowned, mind-bendingly virtuosic flutist and MacArthur Fellow Claire Chase

Wang Lu’s At Which Point, a 2021 commission on poetry of Pulitzer-winner Forrest Gander, will be reprised, alongside a new work – Infinite Body – from The Crossing’s 2022-2023 Resident Composer, Ayanna Woods.

This concert is a part of a residency at Harvard University, where The Crossing will collaborate with student singers and undergraduate composers on contemporary works.
